I'm in the mood to make a clock, but had to leave behind a bunch of stuff that I had saved to make one with.
As long as the sprockets will move chain under low load, they'll do.
As long as the chain isn't totally bound up, it'll do.
I'll pay shipping to 45217 and relieve you of your junk. :)

I have two sprockets one is black the other is silver in color. I also have two chains one is an old rusty o-ring chain but still flexible the other is a standard heavy duty chain which is very flexible. I should have two front sprockets too if that's what you want just going to have to look for where I put them. For some reason I don't throw them away

The heavy duty chain the links look like dog bones. On the old o-ring chain they just flat oval inks not really oval just round on both ends in a straight line to the curves

Is this chain / sprocket clock going to be for sale? I may be interested.

I'm building just one for the workshop.
I've never been very good at making things to sell. Generally the first one is great, and every one thereafter is utter crap.

I will commit to seeing how things go and giving the idea of making them avalialbe a possability. I really need to make sure that I can build one that works first, and make sure that I can do it in a repeatable fashion. I'm not going to do the usual that has the sprockets and chains fixed in place. This will be a kenetic display.

I'll post a new thread if that works out.

I'd like to thank @Mechanic1978 for his generous donation to the cause of keeping me from being late to dinner.

I'm still in need of at least one chain and one full set of sprockets (or at least a front sprocket). I've got two ideas for a clock, and will probably build one of each at least.

As of now I have enough parts. I’m still waiting on the motors I ordered to arrive, and then I can start building

Just dug this from my pile of bits & pieces, its a sprocket from a VF1000 which I owned when I was very young (back in the 1980's). I don't know how I survived, that thing was a beast! Anyway, check out the wear, maybe I should make this into a clock?
The mechanic who removed it said it looks like an exaggerated diagram from a manual - he was not impressed.

That should be a clock, just because of its history to you. The simple kind is using the sprocket as the clock face (not what I'm building, but still cool).

    DO IT!!!

I think I will, we can compare results!
BTW I've had previous experience with clock-building (and no, I'm not Clock Boy).
I combined the face and mechanism from the old one and merged it with the black-painted glass and surround from a new one.

    Just a quick update.
The project is in slow-mode due to needing to make parts for my lathe so I can make adapters to drive the output gear from a stepper motor. I’ll be working on the project over the school-year as I have time. Hopefully it will be complete by Spring. Many thanks to those who contributed to the cause. I won’t leave you hanging. Any significant updates, and the ginal product, will be posted in my 24 Hours Ago thread
