carb question

    This ones been bugging me. Do the carb overflow hoses suck in air?

    Yes. If air couldn’t get into the float bowls the fuel would not flow from the gas tank into the bowls. The overflows are one path for that to happen.

    I never installed the overflow hoses when I installed my carbs. Could this be causing a lean condition??

    no, the ends of the overflow hoses are open to atmosphere, as are your "T" piece overflow nipples

    the over flow tubes would allow air to escape as bowls filled and air back in as fuel flowed into the jets.


    similar to the compensator jets in the 80 to 83 bikes except the overflowing fuel goes into airbox and drains out a tube and into motor.
    you may want to install those hoses incase your carbs overflow better dumping fuel on the ground than on a hot motor.
