I hope this is the right location, I was deciding between here and the XJ Modifications forum.

I bought some grip heaters for my 650 Seca, and I know the common wisdom is to find the headlight or other switched circuit and add a relay to switch a circuit feeding off the battery so you don't accidentally run the battery down.

Question: Is there a reason I can't split off from the headlight circuit BEFORE the fuse to avoid blowing the headlight fuse instead of using a relay AFTER the fuse?

I have blade style fuses and could easily jumper the headlight supply side BEFORE the fuse to another fuse spot and add a 10 amp fuse for accessories. Of course I need to be judicious with how much overall load I add but I am pretty sure others have added heated grips.

    Thanks all!

IMO you should run a fresh wire directly from the horn lead. The horn is only intermittantly used, and on a seperate fuse from the headlight.

    Your plan will work though.
