Making a hopeful post that one of our members from basically anywhere in the world besides the states has an extra 18” Rear Xj550 wheel they’d be willing to sell and ship me?
Or even someone in the states that has a shelfed one.
I’d like the matching swirly mags, instead of seca wheels, which would require new brake caliper, fork, etc.
    Thanks! Or, danke!

The 550 swirlies were not 18”

Following, I've been curious about this as well. I've seen 550s with swirly wheels but wasn't sure of size.

Appears to be a 16" on this Maxim and 18 on the Seca style bike (I think just called a XJ550 overseas?)

Im surprised this wasn’t common knowledge!

All countries “xj550” models, so NOT AMERICAN MAXIMS OR SECAS got 18” swirly rears

    so Germany, japan, uk, etc
The same ones that got oil coolers, and dual front calipers

the conversion is very easy, the 16” and 18” share the same brake drum, same shoes, same drive linkage, you just need a new tire!

so to answer your question @hogfiddles, pretty much everywhere, besides here

the euro 550 had the swerly wheels on what whould be the equilivent of the US seca 550.
dual disc set up for the front linkage style shifter and oil cooler.

you have to buy the wheels from ebay in uk or germany.

we have a member Jpaganel who was selling the dual disc setup.

@XJ550H haha I’m a moderator on that page!

I was going to do a dual front brake setup as well, easy though if you know that parts interchange!
Im going to use my extra virago 750 wheel (exact match wheel specs with dual disk mounts already threaded, as well as a mechanical speedo drive) just need new bearings, paint, right fork and caliper from a seca at my local yard… bam

only downside imo is the front forks will look slightly different, with the seca fork being a little “taller” just because the sleeve is slightly longer. I think it’s so you could mount a fork brace on the secas

as for the rear, I’ve been able to get 2 people from Germany willing to ship me 18” rears, but both want about $180 usd, which is very steep for a wheel, it’s just shipping that’s killer:/
Mostly because I still would need a new tire, bearings, and paint as well.
I don’t really want to spend $300+ on the same wheel that’s just 2” larger

Hijacking my own thread here, but someone save this!
    I would if I was closer :/
And maybe if the guy backed off about 400 or so, it needs alot of work
Although, isn’t this the rarest trim XJ besides the xj900rk? & maybe the turbo
I’ve seen about 4 or 5 complete xj650 secas for sale just in my area, and loads of available parts online, so I’m starting to think those aren’t really that rare?
I’ve never seen a complete black bike for sale (xj550rk) , Ive also never seen parts for these anywhere (all white xj550rh and red xj550rj)
