    Howdy Y'all!

I did a thread several weeks ago about how my 82 xj750j maxim is having issues with the TCI, and was wondering if y'all had any suggestions for replacements? I've considered getting a used one on ebay, but I am not against getting a new rig from somewhere.

TCIs I've looked at specifically are the Ignitech Sparker TCI, and Carmo Electronics TCI box if anyone has any experience with either of these?

    Thanks in advance!

Try this first , there are four screws on the back of the TCI , remove these and carefully pop cover off. Use some contact cleaner and an acid brush ...nylon ONLY on the the circuit board. Inspect the circuit board for any bad solder points if all looks okay . Reinstall cover and plug TCI back in and see if it runs . Sometimes the TCI gets corrosion build up and this might correct it. Much cheaper than buying aftermarket, as to buying used from eBay true you don't know but I bought one from a reputable seller, and had no issues, but I needed it for another bike that was not mine. .

Thanks for the advice! I forgot to mention it, but a buddy went through and resoldered and cleaned the entire thing, and replaced several pieces but it didn't fix the issue, so I'm pretty sure the current TCI is no good.

My 82 XJ650 had the wrong TCI - TID14-02 vs. the stock TID14-06 so I got one of the Carmo digital ignitions. So far it works great. The case is bigger so it won't fit where the stock unit is, I just used a few zipties to secure it under the seat.

Oh cool! I was primarily considering getting the Carmo but wasn't sure if anyone had any experience with them.
