I bought it from a former student of mine. She wanted to sell it so she could buy a bigger bike—— lol.
she’s a neighbor a few mi away, and knows...
Here’s the full pic
If it’s safe to do so.....
the 650 seca non-turbo engine was a non-YICS engine. So it’s not that.
650 seca non-turbo non-YICS also a cable tach (iirc), so that would...
No..... 2002 Big Dog “Bulldog”
I like them. Lots of power..... 145hp!!!!!
one is an ‘85, the other is an ‘02
Some......75 or so others. Mostly xj’s, a dozen or so that aren’t.
If it has YICS, it’s a maxim...... unless it’s a seca with a replaced engine—- in which case there’s GONNA be a lot of mods done.
if it’s a 650...
Depending on how much money you have and how creative someone can be...... yes.
If you mean bolt- on and go........no
So is everyone else.... are you looking for a particular color, do you need a pair? I’m assuming Maxim, based on your screen name? PM me
Maxim or seca?

That’s a good sale, and decent price.... around my area it would have sold a good bit higher, but that’s how things are
You may have to drop the exhaust as a unit, then remove the pipes from the collector.
You can do it yourself but it’s easier with two people....
The hard one to get would be the xj400 maxim..... Japanese market only.
the 400 has several iterations...... both single cam and two cam
You may find the re-chromer wont re-chrome them. Many will not do any exhaust components because any fuel residue will ruin the solutions. It’s...
Nah, it rides pretty decent for a little bike. ive unwound it pretty good too... not thrashing it, just giving it what it want
For those who don’t know what this is, it’s a baby cousin..... the XS400rj Seca. Here is one of mine so you can see what one looks like....
Dang it, same damage, same holes.
If it’s not dialed in, it CAN be happening quite easily..
550 pipes are smaller than the 650....
Not sure of the collector end
BUT— I have some sets, so I’ll try to do a...
Read through the petcock rebuild instructions… I believe lemon says something about needing to gently tap the part inside with a hammer to seat it
Personally, I’d get the correct seals....I know other people have luck with the O-rings, but I prefer the correct seals.
Check to make sure all...
For bench syncing, just set all four butterflies to the point where the cover half of the hole at the top.
if you’re playing with idle rpms,...
If the valve is not closing all the way, the carbs will fill too full, possibly leading to flooding if it doesn’t finally close.
if the petcock...
You can’t adjust 3 ( other than with the idle speed screw). 3 is the “guide”. Basically you set 3, then set 4, 2, and 1 to match. There’s a big...
I set them to initial settings. It is the responsibility of the owner to dual them in for their bike.
I do not do the wet setting, either… That...
Very likely, as the float would likely not rise high enough to close the valve...... unless you’ve wet set the “heavier” float, in which case you...
I have see it on other things, for sure.... never an xj though
That’s not necessarily excess gas. That’s a HUGE indicator of VACUUM LEAK..... not excessive gas, excessive AIR
FWIW, I have NEVER seen an xj float absorb fuel
It can be a symptom..... But it can also be a symptom of too much fuel swamping everything.
Getting the carburetors cleaned out, rebuilt, and...
Why.... because THIS rack was SO Low?? Lol
They control the MIXTURE.That means they are controlling both, in a sense. As you turn them out, more fuel is allowed through into the air...
Yes, agreed. In my experience the only time I might possibly see turns that far out are on 550’s..... they’re a different animal.
Many people will bypass the the temperature switch and wire in a toggle switch so the fan can be manually controlled
Copy your post and put it in your other ex-cop forum. Keep it as one forum, not multiples, please.
I don’t see in the pics where you disassembled the throttle linkage to replace the throttle shaft seals.
-Did you do them?
-Did you make sure to...
Ok. I will look through that and see if anything stands out. That will be a big help for me to examine for you.
So you just took it all apart, but didn’t replace anything? You can pretty well bet you have air leaks all over then.
How did you clean...
What have you done previously to the carburetors?
Timing won’t be the issue..... unless you tore the engine apart and then put something together wrong
Dan, I’m finishing up two other racks in line..... one will be done in the next day or two, then yours gets torn down, too— then we’ll know:)
65o/+ starter is different than the 550 starter
Make sure your not measuring from the top of the ridge though..... you need to measure from the FLAT part
