After surfing around the forum I've gotten some conflicting info in this. So I'll get right to it... (Major noob status here)

I have a 1980 Maxim 650 and I'm looking to go to a cafe type feel for the bike. I really like the look of the 1982 SECA 650 (non turbo) tank.

Is it a direct fit to my Maxim 650?

I'm planning on making a custom seat so I'm not worry about the fit of the seat in the tank.

    Thoughts?

Ok, so the answer is no (I think).

Are there any good resources for aftermarket/custom cafe style tanks that anyone has used?

    Regarding 650 Seca / 650 maxim

Frames are different, I haven't done a seat-swap comparo, but I have done tank-swap comparo which is here in another forum......

That all said, if I get the time in the next few days, I'll try to do that for you.

In the meantime, a quick solution would be to pull the covers and foam, and the do a Seatpan swap..... The seat mounting is different

The 650 rj tank will fit the maxim frame, but you should use the 650rj triple clamps to allow clearance at the front if the tank.... Otherwise you'll run the fork tubes up against the tank on tight turns

Also, just for knowledge base, the 650rj seca triple puts the forms a little farther forward than the 650 maxim forks. That way the Seca tank will clear. The Seca tank will actually fit on the maxim frame if the Seca triples are used.

I have swapped then to check for fit only.... I have ridden it, so can't comment on function/handling......... Yet.

    It's not a 650 maxim.... it's a 1982 xj650r ( non-turbo seca).
    Clues are:
    Engine.....non-YICS
    Forks....big dust boots
    Tank..... xj650rj
    Rotors..... dual rotors

Hogfiddles, thank you for such an upfront reply. Very valuable! Good eye.

Now my question is, will the 1982 650r tank (direct) fit to my 1980 maxum.

Internet clarity is about to happen.
