hey there all, just got myself a 1982 Seca and I’ve found mixed things about the possibility of getting a seat back for it. It looks as though some time in its past it had one but I believe the person I got it from removed it as it has an extra set of mounts that had bolts going through them at some point (they are worn) but I didn’t ask the person about them (he also removed the mirrors which is annoying as hell).

Any thoughts on what I can do for a seatback??

    Thanks

If it's a 650 Seca, you'll do best to make your own. Anything "universal" will require enough modification that it's just easier (and cooler) to do something custom.

Not without modification. Find someone local that can help with metal fabrication; mock up what you need with wire or cardboard, and ask them to weld it up. Powder coat, paint or chrome and you're there.

Correct ones will not, it was just that the bike was made only one year and the accessory was relatively expensive (300$ in 82 money) so no one bought them

maybe a quick disconnect seat back is what you need or tiltable. even if an aftermarket one was made i do not see how it would function properly unless your passanger was way back on the seat almost sitting on the tail.

Honestly I think that’s how it is/was as the back plastic was cracked as if someone sad on it/that far back

This is the luggage rack / seat back I made. I have yet to add two bars across the back and a padded seat back for the passenger but thats for later. It came together pretty well. I made it with electrical conduit and a conduit bender which I had on hand but are fairly inexpensive and from my research there is nothing like this readily available!

Probably should have had the bar for luggage lower but didn't realize this until after it was riveted... maybe if I decided to build another ill fix it lol

Any ideas about strength? I would have used conduit to mock up a prototype for a metal fabricator to follow.

Thinking the same thing... looks like a big lever arm for conduit to handle

I just bought this and have a spare grab bar to mate it to when arrives. Gonna heat and bend / stress relieve to fit...

Will let folks know how it turns out

It's strong takes about 100lb force to bend like a 1ft length of conduit it's like 1/8 thick. Anyways if be comfortable putting a 50lb bag on it. But that luggage rack is cheap id have bought that and made it fit however lol.
