    Hello everyone.
    I have a 1984 XJ600, which I am rebuilding. The cross-member for the rear shock was twisted.
    I cut it out and purchased an aftermarket shock absorber. I believe I have the correct position for the new cross-member, but I would like to double-check. Could someone please measure the rear swingarm angle - the angle of the swingarm to ground level? Thank you all in advance. Cheers

    do you want the angle with the rear wheel off the ground , or with the weight of the bike on the wheels?

    Do the 600s weigh that much? Or is their suspension uber-cushy? When I pop my 550 off the stand, the weight of the bike alone doesn't compress the rear suspension.

    Ground levels won't be the same. Might be better measuring them in garages with level concrete floors. Could an angle be taken from the arm to the frame for comparison with other bikes?

    The only dimension you truly need is the distance from the swingarm pivot to the ground. The length of the arm from pivot to axle is known or easily measurable, as is the distance from the rear axle to the ground (half the diameter of the rear wheel/tire assembly.) You're only missing one leg of the triangle...

    It should have some sag, likely the springs are too stiff or the preload is set too high.

    Nope. The 550 Seca only weighs ~425lb wet. No sag til I sit down and add a couple hundred pounds.

    IMG_0717.JPG ok, so i took some measurements today ,after i had the bike out to clean it after a wet and windy camping weekend.
    hope they are what you're after

    so, on a "reasonably" level garage floor.
    the spirit level is "level", the angle guage is pointing from the rear axle nut to the centre of the swing arm spindle , and the degree angle is 10 degrees .this is with the bike on centre stand ,with rear tyre just touching the floor
    IMG_0719.JPG
    with the bike on its wheels, and as near verticle as i dare, the angle is 3 degrees

    i hope this helps.

    don't you just love it when that happens,
    this is 7 days ago ,and no response, took me well above an hour to level bike up and measure angles for him
    :mad::(
    but then maybe there's a good reason?
