    Hi guys
I just bought this bike and would like to make a few modifications
Nothing major.... but am having difficulty finding after market parts
I really just want to change out the bars to a bars and remove seat to a lower profile solo seat and put a short rear fender
Maybe some nice pipes too but undecided as to style at the moment
And thoughts or suggestions as to where to start?

Go to the showcase section and check out Hogfiddles' pseudo bob. It is the air cooled version of your bike, but it is pretty awesome... Plus, all the changes are reversible, if you want to go back to stock someday.

If that is truly the 750-X version of the bike, that is a rare bird, you might want to think twice about doing any mods that can't be easily un-done......

    That’s what my ownership says
I know that the 750x was not available in the USA because of some tariff on ccs
I picked it up very cheap and got it running and on the road
As I said don’t want to do much just don’t like the bars and rear fender
    Any suggestions?

    X marks the spot........... :)

Actually, it was just Yamaha's model ID to distinguish it for the air-cooled XJ700 models (which were referred to as XJ700 Maxim models), whereas the water-cooled models were called XJ700-Xmodels.

    1985 XJ700 Maxim USA: 1FG (49-state version)
    1985 XJ700 Maxim USA: 1JJ (California version)
    1985 XJ700 Maxim Canada: 1FH

    1985 XJ700 Maxim X USA : 1AA (49-state version)
    1985 XJ700 Maxim X USA: 1FJ (California version)

    1986 XJ700 Maxim USA: 1NH (49-state version)
    1986 XJ700 Maxim USA: 1NK (California version)
    1986 XJ700 Maxim Canada: 1NJ

    1986 XJ700 Maxim X USA: 1NW (49-state version)
    1986 XJ700 Maxim X USA: 1LT (California version)

@chacal none of your listings include any 750 cc machines! I took this from maxim-x.com

"Maxim-X Model Comparison: XN ('85) vs XS ('86)

From time to time I'm asked what the difference is between the XN and XS models of Maxim-X so I thought I'd take the time to list each and every diference I've discovered.

    1) For both the 700cc and 750cc sizes, Yamaha used the XN model classification in 1985 and the XS model classification in 1986. For the 750XN ('85) you'll find 1FL in the V.I.N. and for the 750XS ('86) you'll find 1MY in the V.I.N.. Similarly for the 700XN ('85) you'll find 1AA in the V.I.N. and for the 700XS ('86) you'll find 1NW in the V.I.N.. For those with California models, the 700XNC ('85) shows 1FJ in the V.I.N. and the 700XSC ('86) shows 1LT in the V.I.N."

Already is. Bolt-on/ bolt-off mods won't hurt value, especially if the original parts are safely put in a box for storage.
