the seca uses a handel from shock to frame under seat. maxim grab bar goes from side to side around back of seat`hooks to shock and signal
    you could fab a handel

Yes, we know that's what you meant. The maxim seat lifts up and off. The Seca seat is hinged on the right side, the standing handle is on the left. The secas has a tail fairing right behind the seat.

After all that, if the question really is: " I know what the differences are between the bikes and can see that it shouldn't fit, but still am just curious....", then I will put a 550 maxim grab bar at the back of a 550 Seca and show just how close/far away the bar actually would be

I suspect that back fender cover may have to be modified.

Ok, SO.........a100man came up with a hypothetical question. I have to, right up front, change my previous answer to----it appears it WILL fit.....with an incredibly slight mod.

All you need is the bolt extensions for the top of the shock mounting studs, and an extension to the rear turn signal threaded stems.....that's going to be the tricker part as the wires will still need to pass through.

(I only have pics from the right side....couldn't get the pad to the left.....and am not sure of interference with the standing handle, but I didn't feel it hitting....

If time permits at a later date, I may just put it on to verify if I feel like it-----or just let someone else run with it from this point.

It doesn't look like the hinges will interfere, either!

The most interesting thing...it doesn't look bad, either.

BTW----Anyone looking for a NOS Xj550 grab bar?!?

    Here's pics:

    Hi Dave

Many thanks for that, so basically more 'meat' on the shock top mount needed to get enough turns on thr acorn nut. Now that I see it though
I wonder if the grab part is set too far back to make it comfortable for the pillion?

    Cheers

here's what you need- a couple of these: I put one in front of a 650 tall backrest support bolt/bushing, and another in front of a lower shock mount bolt. Same thread...you can see how it threads onto the bolt and extends it and acts as a spacer at the same time

    Hi Dave

Yes understood. Many thanks again for your time and effort on this. I am still concerned about the comfort aspect mind you - on the maxim I note that the rail comes up just at the rear of the seat cushion..

    Cheers

yes, on the maxim, it wraps around the seat, while on the Seca it would be positioned well back from it. Considering where it fits and how it fits, I now think that if you make four brackets out of flat steel, you could mount THOSE to the four points, and the have another set of holes at the front to allow the grab bar to be mounted farther front.
