When I started my bobber/restoration project a couple of years ago one of the first things I decided to do was to clean and restore the carbs, since if I didn't have gas flow I didn't have anything. During this process the carbs were in such rough shape that I cracked two posts that holds the float in place on two different carbs.
Some say it can be repaired with drilling corresponding holes in the post and carb body and using JB weld to refasten. Others say that they are done and need to be replaced.
I'm having a bit of trouble locating an exact year and model carb rack, so my question is are there any other years or engine size models of XJ's/maxim's etc. that have carbs that will be compatible???
My project as all but stalled due to the fact that I don't want to proceed with the rest of the project if I can't get the engine supplied with fuel and running first.
    Any information will be helpful.
    Thanks in advance!!!

I had a broken post on my set of carbs that I was given, I did the repair and it worked out fine. I used a very small drill (I think a #19) in a Milling machine then also use the same drill (shank cut to length) as the pin to join the broken part to the carburetor body. JB weld to the rescue. Insert the horizontal pin (float pivot pin) through both post holes to assure proper alignment, lightly clamp broken pin and leave it over night, done.
    Cheers, 50gary

If carburators cost more then carburetors, I'll take whatever is cheapest.
    Just noticed the misspelling.
    I'm such a dumbass!!!
Spellcheck has ruined my ability to spell.:(
