I'm looking for a Key Set for my 85 XJ700N. the idiot I bought this from jammed a flathead in the ignition and gas cap after losing the keys. absolute minimum is the Ignition and tank WITH a key. the Seat lock would be nice but, I'm not worried about it tbh.

I'm also in need of a Petcock. doesn't have to be new, I'm not worried about buying a rebuild kit for it if I need to. the petcock I have that cam with the bike is missing some internals and the tank filter/screen. its pretty crusty and I could probably reuse it if I got a rebuild kit. If no one has One I may go that route, and drop the $40 on the tank screen and spring for the vacuum, from xj4ever.

I could use a few more things for the bike, but those are things stopping me from proper running of the bike.

I have a similar thing with one of my bike I just got. I was lucky just a lost key. You are sure you can't get a key made or make the key yourself? I have a key coming in the mail off the code off the back of the ignition. If all else fails you and try this.

Sorry for a late response, the new job has messed up my schedule.

And yes Timbox, as Toomanybikes said the old owner shoved a screwdriver in the ignition. Otherwise I would Look at Keys instead of the whole set up. I have not removed the ignition itself, but, I'll be int he shop tomorrow working on another project. I'll pull the ignition off and snap a pic while I'm out there.

I had to take off the interment cluster and remove the two 10mm bolts under the ignition switch. Once I did that, I was able to remove the ignition and get to the code in the back. For you, it will be better to pick up a new lock set on ebay if the lock tumbler is gone. I will try to get some pics of my Maxim today for you as I will be putting my ignition back on it today to check the electrical system out.

Here is more or less what you need to do.

The code will be on the back of this. If yours is drilled out you will need to remove this anyway and replace it with the new one. Remember that the ignition key may or may not fit the gas tank and the seat/helmet lock. Good luck.

Tim, I know that needs replaced. the previous owner shoved a screwdriver in the tank lock and ignition when he lost the key. This thread is for purchasing a replacement. My gauge cluster is a lot different than yours. But it looks like it uses the same mounting points.
