I saw on xj4ever that the according to chacal, "most parts suppliers use seca seals and not maxim seals which can create a rolling effect due to different sizes", paraphrased of course. Was curious if anyone had purchased this kit or knew if it was any good? I would prefer this one if it is actually maxim seals since it is more comprehensive in what it includes. For some reason you have to right click the link and choose open in new tab for it to work.

I wish there was a decently priced set with the piston in the USA. Most of the good piston rebuild kits are from the UK.

Both the seals and the pistons for the XJ750 Maxim calipers are different from the XJ750 Seca versions............which makes sense, because if you look at the two types of calipers, they are completely different pieces..........

Interesting. European sourced parts that are made in Japan.
Marketing-speak has gotten incredibly stupid (maybe it always was).

If there was more demand for parts for these older bikes then there would be a lot more online stores carrying them. People in the US just junk them and buy a newer model.

Lots of places do carry parts for them, just most of them mislabel the parts fitment due to a lack of knowledge. The real problem came when Yamaha decided to drop less profitable parts from their catalog about 10 years ago. If I'm reading the fuzzy numbers on the fiche correctly you can still get caliper seals direct from Yamaha, but you have to buy the piston too.
You're right about the availabilty problem in North America. We are a throw-away society for the most part. Still, we have it better than some other models and makes of machines.

How can you tell if it's still available from Japan? The dealers can't even tell what's what. If it wasn't going to kill my wallet I'd prefer an OE piston rebuild kit for my Maxim.

Those are seals for the Seca style calipers, they will probably let you return them.

Everytime I've ordered a part from a dealer it was shipped direct from Japan. That's part of why I order from Chacal. I hate waiting for a month to get a part.

I actually haven't bought them yet so that works out. How can you tell the difference from the picture?

Chacal has and more caliper seal sets pass through his hands than just about any person outside of the manufacturers.

many photos of parts have a disclaimer saying parts shown are not always the parts you get or something along those lines

I was curious enough I bought them, what came to me was exactly correct for 82 xj 750 maxim. boots and seals it all just worked as expected.

only complaint I can think of is the boots are made of a lesser material than the OEM was, thickenss and feel. so I suppose longevity will be less. but I only had 1 boot left on my set so these are certainly better than the nothing I had. they've been installed a few weeks so far leaks or issues
