I've noticed that this site is very slow loading lately and today I got a "bandwidth exceeded" error message. What's going on and how can we fix it?

I've noticed there were a LOT of non-login connections lately. I'd bet that was what sucked up all the bandwidth allocated by his provider.

As to why all the extra connections, it's impossible for me to say. One could always put on their tinfoil hat and start screaming "conspiracy"... if you were banned from a site, and wanted to exact your revenge, what better way than to take you off the net by using up all your traffic allocation?

I noticed 113+ visitors on top of a handful of registered users just before this happened.

Oh come on! it's spring and people are trying to get their bikes running!
I've seen 180 "lurkers" and just 3 members and the archive search feature must use up alot of whatever--chip capacity--memory--squirrels?
and to all lurkers, dive in, the water is just fine !

Our site continues to grow so we continue to get more traffic. I think this was a record month so far. Yep, jump in the pool and enjoy. I've increased the bandwidth so that should be solved now.

I also noticed slower response so, that's why I just upgraded the site to the latest version of the software. The software has some anti flooding and other security features. So that should stop those non legit hits...

After the upgrade I didn't test intensively. So, that's where you guys can help. Please PM me if you notice any post upgrade issues and I'll look into them.

i was browing, and got told if I browse to much i'll be banned for spamming.

    seriously...

i guess you can't open threads to fast..

I just open up 'new posts since last visit' and middle-click (open in new tab) all the links..

I gotta say the scrolling "Last 10 Forum Posts" box at the top of each and every page is seriously obnoxious -- any way we can trim that to only appear on the main forum page?

    I agree.

I use the new posts since last visit auto search so it is repetitive and takes up space. What I would really like is the new posts button to be on every page like it is on the other forums I visit, that is the biggest annoyance I have here (I don't like trying to find my way back to the forum hen to the new post button after each few minutes, using the new posts button is much easier then going into each individual forum).

I am not trying to some ungrateful, I like this forum and website and can’t imagine all the work that is involved to keep it going so smoothly.

Agreed. This was set as part of the upgrade. I believe to have this fixed now. Top on the main page and bottom on all other pages. Please verify.

No need to flee the mothership. We need to identify the issues and get them resolved...

BTW, I use Firefox and I discovered that if I left click anywhere in the sentence "Latest Forums Posts", then the entire forum block scrolls up and hides the scrolling threads

This latest software upgrade was a major change to the code base so that's why some items may work different and buggy. The flood protection is a good feature but I still need to learn how to fine tune it. Please be patient.
