Hi guys, I just finished putting my front wheel back on the bike with new tires and brake pads. For some reason, the caliper is hitting the brake rotor.. I took the caliper apart again and the pads are sitting correctly.. I didn't have that problem before and the right caliper (Canadian Seca with dual front rotors) seems spaced just fine. I'm thinking it might be the small spacer that sits on the right side of the wheel and the fork that isn't seated properly and it's causing the wheel to be a few mm off centre. Any ideas? Here's a pic of the rotor and the bike in question!

I recently rebuilt my brakes, too. And I came across this problem.

This is likely a stupid question, but I'll ask it anyways.

Did you try compressing the brake lever until it becomes firm?

Oh, and if not, did you try just pushing it over?

Could very well be the speedo hub - Should the female receptor piece be parallel to the ground pointing to the rear of the bike or perpendicular to the ground pointing up?

there is a tab on speedo hub that goes into a slot on the fork tube

    parallel to the ground

the spacer you are talking about goes into the seal and rests on wheel bearing .

are both washers on mounting bolt of caliper on outside if fork should be

you are missing the washer that goes under the axel nut

I figured it out last night and I figure I should post this is anyone comes accross a similar problem. While the wheels and brakes were off, I took off the front forks off to paint them. I had marked their height as to where they should go but it seems that when I reinstalled I must of been about 1 or 2mm off.

The axle bolt that went through and through would still align in the holes but the small shift in the suspension was causing the whole assembly to be out of square. This was causing the rotor to be slightly angled towards the fork and rob me of the 2mm I needed to fit the brake caliper.

I slid one side down while the wheel was in with the axle bolt loose and manage to align everything perfectly!

IIRC, when you have loosened/removed anything at the front end, upon reassembly, you should loosen everything. Then - starting at the bottom - tighten it back up.

Very close. Tighten a bit as you go up until everything is snug to allow everything to naturally marry (it'll take a couple times) then do a final torque starting at the beginning. This way any binding will be easily noticed.

Don't forget to bounce the front end just before snugging it all up tight to get it all to settle in.
