One caution do not pull all the shims out and turn engine over do one cylinder at a time ,record the reading on shim size on bottom of shim , you may find swapping around will bring it back in specs, I had to buy 3 shims on mine from local yamaha dealer 9.00$ EA.

When I got my KZ up and running it had this problem. Although the carbs were fine it was sucking air at the intake boots. Check for cracks, make sure your carbs are fully sealed to the boots, and make sure you sealed the boots to the engine.
