    Hello all,
Bike's a 1980 XJ650 Maxim, internal engine machinery untouched except for scheduled preventative maintenance. @48K on the clock.
I am afraid my cam chain may have reached its adjustment limit. The adjuster is not stuck. Seeking advise from any/all SME's on an end to end replacement process. A few disassembly assumptions: Remove seat, gas tank, valve cover, timing cover, possibly the cam chain adjuster (it's the manual design), displace camshaft gears and top chain guide. I assume this R&R can be done in frame. Questions about the R&R process - does the chain have a master link to separate, or do you have to use a chain breaker? What would be the recommend approach for removing the old chain and threading the new one in? Do new chains come with a master link or some other form of connector? My UK shop manual integrates all cam chain related steps with the engine overhaul process, so I don't have and end to end process just for this repair. There may already be a write up here, i'm just not a site search guru.
Appreciate any and all help. Thanks everyone.

    Ride on!
