Carb rebuild!! Losing my sh#$%.

    Your intake boots are likely done for. They should not be anywhere near that hard. I'd expect cracks to be showing up soon if there aren't any already.
    With new boots the carbs roll right in without a lot of force. Even with the old boots I started out with I could put the carbs in with a bit of heat to soften the boots and the help of a wooden hammer handle used as a lever.

    if the boots are not visibly cracking you can try a 2 day soak in brake fluid. Odds are you will end up splitting them at this point so be ready to buy new ones. Cleaning them off post-soak is beyond messy. The fluid coats the rubber like slime on an eel.
