Hello all! I’ve purchased a 1982 750 xj for my sons first machine, and it needs some help. I’m wondering what the implications would be if I take the carbs from a 82 650 xj and install on the 750? Thank you in advance for any help given!

Funny, I bought my 82 XJ 750 Maxim without any carbs on it. Went to the local Yamaha dealer (service) and asked them, the mechanic walked me out to their stash of parts bikes and said you can have those (XJ 650) Jet them the same as the 750 and you'll be fine. I ultrasonic cleaned them and jetted them as best I could. Have not yet run the bike with them so I'm not certain they will work?
    Cheers, 50gary

The 650 and 750 used the same model of carburetor. As mentioned you just have to jet accordingly, including the jet needle and air jets.
Do you have a service manual?
