As any vetran XJ rider knows, the XJ 700 was Yamahas answer to Harley Davidson lobbying for tarrifs on Japaneese bikes over 700cc. (They were kicking harley ass, in sales and on the street)
They fitted it with bigger carbs, a 5 valve head, and pulled more RPM and horsepower than the previous years 750. 86 Hp@9000 RPM with 9500 redline.
So im cleaning up my bike today, thinking of this story, and i notice that the first didgits on the crankcase serial are FH1 hehe
Could this be an acronym for F**k Harley, 1 as a middle finger?
    I think so! Ha Ha!
    Whats your opinion?

    Nope.
The first three digits on the engine number (short VIN) are just the frame code, and that sequence has a per-set pattern to it that was decided uopn long before the 1984 tariff.

    U.S. XJ700 Maxim X's were 1NH for that year.
