After countless hours of research and fabrication, I have finally been able to complete my custom X pipe exhaust for the Maxim X.

The back story is that another member on here ( Radare ) inspired me to create a custom exhaust:

So I put the plan into action by gathering exhausts from a Seca II, an FZR600, an R6, an R1 and old school F1 mufflers from a Honda Magna.

    And this is the result:

Of course you'll want to see it on the bike and hear what it sounds like:

I do have to say it has and exotic growl between 4 and 5K under a load. I'll have to see if I can get a Go-Pro one of these days so I can give you the full effect while out on a ride.

I don't even remotely care that this thread is over a year old. As someone who has fabricated plenty of stuff out of steel, and as someone who also owns a maxim x, I have to give credit here. This is just cool.

    Hey thanks Squid!

Was a serious undertaking to create it. Brought the bike to the 2019 carb clinic and those in attendance got to hear it in person. Still have to make some more vids too...

I'm curious to know how you figured out or calculated the length of the tubes, angle of the collectors, etc. I know there's a lot of science and math that goes into the design. With my current level of knowledge I'd probably just try to replicate a design that's a known quantity, and go from there, but it'd still be trial and error with multiple iterations.

This calculator was a huge help:
    http://www.mezporting.com/exhaust_length.html

And here's a picture of the layout example that I used initially:

Did the stepped tube sizes and added the x-pipe for the exit merge.
Lengths and diameter changes were calculated mainly for the torque production on mine.

    Nuch,
    Thanks for another awesome picture!

As you guys can see in the closeup shot above, I had a challenge with radiator, front wheel, and oil filter clearance concerns too.

Then of course, fine tuning the jetting on the carbs.

Yes, great job. Exhaust are some of the best parts on a bike IMO. The voice of the bike.
