They were ok, Single cylinder 4 stroke, big enough to run around town for errands.

My oldest boy learned to ride on an Exciter. I picked it up when he was 15 that would be 6 years ago. He loved it and I loved it because in those 6 years I did nothing to it but regular maintenance. Get like 75 mpg and I kind of kid myself in the rear for selling it last year to some girl who wanted to start riding. Had 32,000 miles on it when I sold it and still ran great.

Well D'Angel, I just restored a 1978 Honda XL 250 and that was a very forgetable experience, but don't let me put you off. LOL.

The exciter is what it is. I think you'll have fun with it.

My first road-legal bike was a 250 Exciter. It was a basic bike, and fun to drive (for a beginner). The only issue I remember is that if the carb was dirty (grit/residue from inside the tank), it went really lean real fast. That one cylinder would get real hot and backfire like cazy. I babied it home, tore the carb off, cleaned everything thoroughly, cleaned the tank, all was good.

I was the 3rd owner, and I passed it along as well. None of us abused it but it had a LOT of kilometers on it for a small bike and still ran like a top. Enjoy !

My first motorcycle was an '82 250 Exciter almost 20 years ago. It was a good bike. I drove it home from Illinois to Vermont when I was done my training for the Air National Guard. I enjoyed it though I wouldn't take it on a long ride like that again if I still had it. It got great gas mileage and was trouble free.

I hated rebuilding my XL 250... Put more into the motor than I paid for the thing... And it was stolen a week or 2 after the rebuild (no insurance).
