Post up the models that they are from and the part numbers printed on them. You'll likely get more responses that way.

TCI units are different between the different models in terms of spark advance, which I'm pretty sure is a function of displacement, and also might be different between maxims and secas.

It is for some Secas and Maxims anyway.

Little unsure of the model these match up with the red ones "5G2-10" are labeled for '82 XJ750's.....The yellow are actually red TCI unit's just faded from the sun. The side covers were missing.

The 4H7-10 has writing on it that says 650 but in the manual in a picture under the 750 electrical section it has this tci type in the illustration...which doesn't really mean anything..

They all work but in need of an XJ wizard to clarify which is for what!

I 'think' the first one -4H7 is for a 650, all the rest -5G2 are for 750, same as mine.

That's my assumption too. Taking offers and I'll ship anywhere for $10 flat rate. Individual or the lot.

Doing a part number comparison. This is what I have come up with.

    Non-YICS
The 4H7 was originally used on the 80-81 non-YICS 650, and then replaced by the 5V2.

    YICS
The 5G2 was used for all the 82-83 650/750 YICS

My guess would be a timing advance change in the YICS engines.

I THINK, though I'm not positive, that the 4 stands for 4 wires in the connector, the 5 for 5 wires. I believe the 5th wire is the kickstand switch, which started in 82. Yes, I have a 4H7 in my 81 xj650.

I changed mine last year to solve a tip-in stumble, which it did solve.

Permissionto land, Thanks unit arrived in UK earlier this week. Only down side is UK customs slapped an import tax on it! Currently arguing with them but had to pay to get it released.

At least I now have a spare TCI unit which should keep my bike going if my original fails!

    many thanks

I've had that problem with the bastards, so what i do now is to get the seller to write on the export form as a gift and to make out the price as low as possible.
The last item i bought from USA was an XJ1100 TCI unit which cost me £130 plus the p&p. I asked the seller if he could do something about the export form and he said yes.
It came as a $10 gift with the postage more than the make believe price but at least the Customs and Excise were non the wiser.
I've been stung on carbs imported and allsorts. Bastards. It's secondhand and already had VAT paid and those fookers still want more.

I'm a little bit confused as for what would be the correct TCI for an '83 Maxim 750cc...can anyone tell me for sure, because it doesn't run properly and I wonder if it could be the problem (or one of the problems)?

fj111200, Next time I will ensure that cost price is below tax threshold £15.00 GBP.

And as you say 2nd hand, 30 odd year old is and still accruing import tax is a joke. Rip off Britain!

Quebecois59, Not exactly sure for definite, but I'm sure the gurus will confirm. prety sure that your looking for the same TCI unit as being offered by permissiontoland.

Has your tci not got the reference numbers/ data plate attached?

I don't have it next to me, neither even close to my place (bike is stored 40 minutes from home).
