Gear Oil

    Ok, I know this has been talked about a lot but I just want to make sure. I bought some Valvoline 80w-90 gear oil that says it will work wherever GL-4 or GL-5 is specified. My manual says to use GL-4 oil for my 82 XJ650. I couldn't find any GL-4 only gear oil and this was as close as I could find. Is this ok or should I find some GL-4 only? Thanks.

    The GL5 is not good for bronze bearings/syncromesh (car trannies). Not sure what is in your bike but if there isn't any bronze bushings, GL5 is ok

    Thanks. I don't have an owner's manual for mine but I'm going to guess that the final drive construction was the same or similar between the 650 and 750 in the same year. I've read on here where some people use GL-5 gear oil with no problems. I just wanted to have a little peace of mind about it. I appreciate the help.
