So I was scraping away the gasket from the shifter cover and I noticed this angled depression in the surface. I'm pretty certain I didnt do this as I wasn't scraping at an angle like that and I would have felt such a big chunk come off. Is this supposed to be there?

So it doesn't appear to cause a situation where fluids could pass, so I'd say it's not a big deal
if you're worried about it a small dab of RTV would fill the crevice

if you are super lucky, someone who has way more knowledge of this are will suggest what to do. Let's hope that this thread bump will let them find your thread :)

Thanks for the response! I was starting to think the same thing, if its not supposed to be there then there is still some meat left for the gasket to seal the two surfaces.

Its not supposed to be there, BUT I wouldn't worry about it as it won't be a problem unless its got a crack. It could be built up with TIG and then filed flat but not really worth the hasssle.
