    Hi guys,
I got a couple minutes today to check over some basics. Found a couple odd things:
With the battery showing 12.9 volts my instrument lights all work, turn and tail all work but no headlight or fog light. I didn't get a chance to actually check the bulbs themselves, but the fuses are good.
Do these bikes need the engine running to have the headlight work? I've never seen a bike that was set up that way, but I've never had a Seca before either!

One other possible issue is the warning lights in the dash. Key on, engine off they all light up and stay light (at least for the 5 minutes that I left the key on). Again, is this a normal function or should they be going out eventually even with the engine not running? It does crank over when I hit the starter, but no gas = no fire.

While looking over the front end I discovered that the speedo cable was routed outside the headlight bracket, putting a serious bind on it. Pulled that out and routed it inside where it just looks much better.
    The fun begins!!!

Yeah the headlight will not come on until the engine is running. There is a relay that has to be tripped by the generator spinning so fast and creating so much voltage which can only be achived by a running engine not just one being turned over by the starter.

and yes I do believe it is the same situation for the dash lights.

Headlight is operating properly as you (and winterman) describe......will not come on until enough voltage output from the generator latches the relay "on".

Dash lights do not go thru the relay, so yes, they will come on and stay on as long as the key switch is in the on position.

Cool, good to know! If all goes well, tomorrow begins the front end tear down.
