Hauling a dead washer and other treasure to the landfill today. As I pulled up to the metal pile there is a motorcycle engine sitting on the ground. I look closer, Yamaha on the side cover. It's a non-yics 650. Side covers all there, alternator and starter, shift lever and one carb to engine boot.
The only things I could remove without tools were the 5 of 6 motor mount inserts and the oil filler cap. Didn't want to throw my back out trying to load the whole thing. I'll keep the filler cap as a spare, since I nearly lost mine a couple years ago. Anyone need some motor mount inserts?

It amazes me to no end what people throw away, I lived in a small mining town in Nevada, found a treasure trove of Volkswagen parts, including a perfectly good short block. One mans trash is another mans treasure.

I drove for a local waste co. and couldn't believe all the
BRAND NEW- still in the box stuff people would just toss
    into the trash.

Watching a packer roll over perfectly good furniture along
with all the other house hold items that some of us struggle
to afford was to much to take.

And to make matters worse-you were NOT aloud to recover even
the smallest item. If caught they would call your boss who would
then give a warning of termination if it continued.

This week at work the big guy wanted the shop cleaned out, and reorganized. I now have a 100$ shelving unit holding all my bike parts, and about 100$ work bench all in my garage, they were just going to throw them away, nothing wrong with them. Perfect timing, because i just got my bonus, and i had no work space left to do anything with the bike.

In the late 90's I was at Yamaha Canada repairing a lift truck and witnessed mufflers, carbs, pipes, handlebars and almost every part for my Maxim going in the dumpster. A truck was there to haul away the parts before anyone could retrieve the treasure. It was all crushed. They wouldn't even sell me anything or ship to a dealer for me to purchase. Claimed it was obsolete and had been written off and it was required to destroy everything. Broke my heart as I needed mufflers.

    American Pickers! LOL

You guys are lucky, over here the rubbish tips are heavily patrolled and anything dumped is grabbed by the gatekeepers and sold via a recycling company Grrrrrrr

What really makes me weep is this corporate mindset of "if we can't sell it, it MUST be destroyed/trashed". Can't give it away to those that could use it, can't let charities have it, etc, etc, etc...
That's the real travesty in my eyes
