With there being so many options out there for new or near new bikes... What would you buy?

I'm thinking of borrowing some money and getting something new so I can take my time with an XJ900 restoration.

Any of the iterations of the latest Yamaha 900cc triple. It may be the best value in motorcycling there has been in at least 20 years. Of them, the FJ-09 would be my pick. I'd also consider the Honda CB1100, and their NC700X.

Moto Guzzi V7 - no question. I hadn't heard of it until recently and was just browsing some local used ads for it today.

If I bought new, I think the V7 would be my ride of choice. Used, I might actually do within the next year or so - saving my pennies.

I'm rethinking this. $10,000 buys a lot of gas, campground fees, and time off. To heck with a new bike!

Was it that money was not a limiting factor.... Motus. Right on the hairy 3 way edge of wretched excess vs thoroughly wonderful vs sensibly useful. It appears to have all those conflicting qualities.

The only conflicting quality Motus has for me is that it already comes with all of the cool things I'd add to a new bike. Where's the fun in that ;)

What do you guys think about an "83" kawasaki kz1100 shaft compared to an"82" yamaha xj1100
for touring economy, availability of parts, easy to work on, performance etc.

You're not kidding, $30k+ for a bike? They look cool though, would love to hear one. There's a dealer not too far, wonder if you can demo ride :D

30K for a bike that comes with every top-end custom accessory a person would put on it anyway. In its category the Motus is as much of, if not more, a value as the new Yamaha triples are.

They have been very generous with demo rides, and have hosted several extended demos with the owners (none of which I've been able to go to). They don't even seem to care if you can buy or not.

Alive, since you are in Qld, there is no doubt, it has to be an XJR1200. If you want to try something different, ex cop FJs can be bought for about $8,000.

I've only ridden the 82 XJ750 Maxim, so I have zero experience with other bikes. However, I recently looked at several sport touring bikes, all with EFI, such as the Honda ST1300 and Yamaha FJR1300. I would keep the Maxim, but would love to add one of these down the road. Years down the road.

Raider or DL1000 depending on my mood at the time of purchase.
