Hey everyone got a question.... looked a 750 maxim today and noticed that it had a film on the front rotor..I know it not good but how bad is that ...other than not having good stopping!!! My thought is that the fork seal may be leaking... Can someone shed some light on this...

IF I buy it .. how much trouble would it be for a noob to replace the seals...

On 2 wheels... just lost my hat.
there are some really good threads on the fork seals. give yourself about 6 hours or so and some patience and you can do it.

    as for the rotors..
I dont know if they can be turned or not. that would be the best way. if not, you can get some brake parts cleaner and some steel wool. try to clean it up that way.

Dampen a white athletic sock with Lacquer Thinner.
    Dampen.
Wipe-down both sides of the Rotor.
That takes care of the Rotor, ...

Get a Spray Can of Disc Brake Kleen.
Shoot the Caliper and spray some on the other sock and wipe-down the Front Forks.

    Hang the socks outside afterwords.

Thx for the tips.. If I get it ... i will do the sock techique first and see if the forks are actually leaking... any other ways of telling if they are in fact leaking.

    Thx again

Check the calipers also, they are another source for leaks.

if the fork seals are leaking, you will see thin black rings above the seals on the inner fork tubes. The only other place they can leak is either the drain screw or the big retention bolt on the very bottom, but the whole bottom of the fork would be covered with the same dirty film, too.

I concur with mlew - the brake caliper seals may be failing, and depositing brake fluid on the rotors. Not a deal breaker, but it might let you haggle the price down a bit, citing all the extra work you would have to do
