Mystery wire

    82’ XJ550 maxim, I have no idea what this wire is for and can’t find its description in my manual, I’m clearly missing something... looks to run towards the alternator

    what color is it?

    is it covered with that black sheath and does it run down to motor ?

    EDIT it is oil switch wire confirmed looking at spare oil switch

    I'm thinking low oil level switch but wire color will help.

    Sorry black sheath, and white wire. Sorry if the picture is poor! It does run under the bike in a bundle of other wires by the alternator

    that wire is oil switch wire it connects to main harness at a black red striped wire. this wire comes out of main harness at the 2 blade white connector with brown and green wires in it (brushes) and a 3 position white connector with 3 white wires( stator) .
