Hi, everybody. I bought my no start XJ550 about 6 months ago and have been troubleshooting issues ever since. The question I have is that when I turn the key ON and the switch to START and press the START button the voltage goes from 12.6v to 8v according to the gauge cluster voltage dial. The voltage at the battery is 12.6v...at the starter 12.6v. What do I need to do next? Maybe test the ignition coils?

I don't know JACK about electrical stuff, so this is probably not your problem ... but on my XJ650 I had a problem with the starter button, which I solved by re-soldering the connection.

Does anything electrical work on the bike? Horn, turn signals, neutral lights, etc.?

Hello Oregon! I was a "no start XJ550" not too long ago. Mine is now running great thanks to the fine folks here.

What happens when you push the start button? Does the starter turn? Do you have spark? What else have you looked at along the lines of hte troubleshooting you've completed so far?

Good luck - the bike is a blast to ride once it's done!

Yeas, I push the button and it just turns but wont catch. I have spark. Just by luck I happen to read another post on this site abound the kick stand sensor. So I searched and found a plunger pin that is suppose to push in when the kick stand is up. Well my kick stand was up and it was no where near pushing the pin in. I grabbed a screwdriver a jammed the handle between the kick stand and the the pin to hold it all the way in and pushed the start button. Low and behold LIFE!!! It took a few tries but it ran by GOD! Thanks guys.
