New to me xj650rj

ill try to just keep this all in one thread when I have a question or what not about this

I just picked this up yesterday for what I call a good price. Sometime u win and sometimes u lose at bargain pricing when buying a bike
I do believe if I were to want to bring this back to a factory looking/running bike then I could consider it a loss for buying as I’m positive oem pieces for it will cost more than it’ll ever be worth.
So. I bought it as a Non runner being told it has ran and did run when parked. Cool

I took it home and changed the battery and starter and she now spins correctly and starts.

I’m still in the middle of my kz project too so I won’t be asking questions daily about this until I finish that. I hope to maintain some progress with it tho at all times

What I know I’ll need.
Air box ( does a 650 interchange with a 750)
Carb rebuild kit
All normal maintenance items
Bearings
Baffles for this 4-1 or find a new exhaust system. (Saftie—-will your4-1 fit this??)
Rubber
Fork brace or a front fender

Onto the first question of the day

1). Which tci unit is correct for this? eBay shows green tags on tci for a 650. I have a red tag

 

non yics tci black from a xj650 midnight or one from a non YICS xk 650 listed below
or a green one TDI14-08 5v2-10 from xj650rj

the one you show in photo is for the xj650 YICS so you have the wrong tci in there

also a member used a sink drain stopper as a baffle in the end of the exhaust.

I did not think the YICS xj650 tci was wired the same to start a nonyics bike

be great if tci works but I think the timing is different

Lol. I’m very certain you’re right. Why wouldn’t you be. I’ll start looking at the wiring now!

 

I will be looking to as I have some bike work to do so I will check the tci hook up on an XJ650 RJ and an XJ650J

mmmm just looking at that right side cover is it still intact? there is half of what you paid for it if you decide to part it out.
