I picked up an 82 XJ550 Maxim last summer and will be tearing into it soon. Just kinda getting the feel for what's available for this bike. I normally tear the whole bike down and go through every detail. I have been rebuilding Z1900 bikes for the last 12 years so this will be the first XJ550. I do own a XS2 650 which I have restored and also own a FJR1300. In ended up with this after purchasing a 74 CB550 in which the next-door neighbor came over and asked if I would buy his XJ550. Of course I said why not. One thing I'm concerned about is the lack of oversized pistons. Hopefully it can be honed and new std rings installed however a quick glance shows that these are hard to find also. I did see them at CMSL . Here is the XS2. I hope to restore the XJ550 to its original glory

Welcome to the clan Wayne. Nice xs2 and I also have one but not that nice yet. The xj550 is a pretty tough little engine that may not need a full rebuilding. But just about everything you need will be available here.
Happy wrenching. And just how many Z1’s do you have?

Sat in father in laws shed for the last 30 years and the only real problem is a very rusty tank. But it’s complete and even the exhaust is in good shape.
