I decided to check the spark on all 4 again after trimming back the wires last night. Tried a spare plug on all 4, and they all had spark. Took out plug 2, and it was all carboned up. Changed it out and cleaned it and moved to 3. Did the same thing because the plug was the same. Moved to 4 and tested the cleaned plug and the bike almost started. Changed the plug, turned it over and it started right away. WTF?

Even new plugs can be bad. I'd still check the insulation. You may have moved a wire just enough that it can't jump a spark to ground until it hits the plug.

I would splice first leave enough plug wire to be able to splice a few more times. then consider new coils

While I'm waiting for the splice kit to arrive, is it of any use to try and sync or color tune?
