What do folk generally use. normal or high temp paint? I doesn't get that hot, right ? Also what to do with the bare alloy stripes and YICS embossing. Just polished or lacquered over ? Questions, questions.

I have used Plasti-kote stove paint the past which I like as it's satin rather than matt. Problem is it's not easily available
    and isn't that keenly priced.

    Cheers

It does get pretty hot, I used Duplicolor engine enamel with ceramic, and their High temp primer probably same stuff as listed above:

I just did mine. Here was my process:

    • Strip old paint with aircraft stripper. Took two attempts, old paint was tough.
    • Polished aluminum ribs and YICS logo starting with 320 down to 1500 grit with a block.
    • Painted with VHT engine paint.
    • Sanded down the ribs and YICS logo part again (you can mask off as well but I think it was easier to polish first and then sand it again the next day)
Looks great! I don't have a better pic at the moment.

Thanks chaps. Just started stripping mine - noticed quite some (randon, not machined) scratches on the ribs and letters getting through them with a fine draw file and wd40 as cutting lube.

Yeah they definitely weren't finely finished from the factory. I had sand quite a bit to get a smooth finish.
