I know this subject gets alot af airtime ...but the parts guy at the yama dealer gives me the eyeball whenever I need a year- specific part.
So here goes, The frame # reads: JYA22R0090A000856
The motor is for sure a 750
the covers for sure say Maxim
Some of you guys are really on top of what these numbers designate and if even a little of this information could be handed down to me, I wouldn't have to wear boxing gloves when visit the dealer....I could, instead baffle him with my new-found intelligence ( thanx for your support of course)
I've got more glitches I'll surely need help with ...I just need to start at the top
    Thanx in advance
    Jeff

    Hey Jeff;
    It's a 1983 XJ750K the K designates the year, J-82.
The 22R in the serial# is the Model#. Some of your oem parts will include that #
It was produced for the US market
    Hope that helps.
    Good luck

    Thanx Rich
I'm walkin' with my head higher already!
Might you or anyone else know if the round gauges and/or headlight were an option at purchase? I remember as a teen all the buzz in my cycle magazines about the world not being ready for square-styled instruments and headlight assy. I remember honda's nighthawk as well as the XJs switching over in the early eighties and all the mags kinda scoffing at this new wave.
My reason for kickin' this around is that my xj that we just identified has, round guages, bars and headlamp...alot of your guy's photos show the 83 with squarish stuff or maybe I'm just not looking close enuf .
I'm having trouble with the tach and warning lights and this type of uncertainty throws my parts guy fo a bit of a loop.
let me know if you know.
    many tanx
    Jeff

The 82 had square gauges and headlight.
    83 had round and round.
I don't know if it was an option or not.
