I have noticed after pulling the plugs that mine are also dry sooty black. Like so many other posts. I went to 4 filter pods and removed airbox completely. The thing is all winter about once a week my bike started excellent. I would go out put chokes on full, hit the starter and it would start up right away and idle really fast. I then would close the chokes slowly, and idle would return to 1050 rpm. And now on these warm days it still starts right up and does the same thing. I havent synced or color tuned yet. I have bench synced the butterflys using a wd-40 spray tube as a gauge. And i set the mixtures by ear for highest rpm. Any response would be greatly thankfull.

Did you ride with the pods last year ? If you are looking at the plugs after only starting on choke and running a bit over the winter and turning it off , and did this several times , that is not a true read on the plugs and yes they would look like that . You want a plug in this range .

No this will be the first year i'll have it on the road. I have only been starting it up and driving it back and forth on my little driveway. Your plug looks normal in your pic. Some say i will have to rejet. Others say no. I guess i'll have to wait till i get it on the road. Thanks

It'll certainly tell you once you start riding it. I would bet you'll get backfiring when decelerating, and your acceleration will likely not be as crisp and strong as it should be. Usually when going to seperate air filter's you will have to make changes and retune. Usually those filters with an aftermarket pipe will at least require a stage 1 carb kit.

You can't really tell anything by reading the plugs just starting it and reving it up. You will need to ride it and see how it reacts on the road. I tun mine hard in an upper gear (4th or 5th) and while it's reved at high rpms, I hit the kill switch and pull over to check the plugs. That way you get an acurate reading while the engine is under a load. Good luck.
