On my project GT250. Just working with the slider as the stanchion is removed. there are no bushes on these forks to drive out the seal so it's down to pry techniques. Have made two tools one flimsy (it bent)and one strong (it didn't) but still can't shift the b*gger. Tried heating too. Next move will be to try and fabricate some kind of puller with a 36 mm socket ad some M10 studding, but any other suggestions? (also tried self tapping screw into top of seal and claw hammer (gave way after much grunting - still haven't found the screw that pinged off the walls of the garage,,)

    Cheers

Something long and thin and stiff, like 1/4 inch threaded rod (aka: all thread) or wooden dowel up through the bottom of the slider via the bolt hole that retains the damper assembly to the under side of the seal and hammer it with care. Yeah, I know, "hammer with care" is something of an oxymoron. And the heat gun. Good luck.

Thanks - just had a look at that idea. Unfortunately the bore of the slider is such that you cannot get an angle with your rod to catch the underside of seal.

turn it seal side down in a pan of lacquer thinner or carb cleaner overnight and the seal should turn to jello

Is there any possibility of using a slide hammer with an attachment to catch the underside of the seal. Had a GT250 in the 1970's but cannot remember much about the forks.

There is a tool called a seal puller, its like a handle with two different hooks on the end -----)
Kinda like that, they are relativly cheap, $20 handy for plenty of other jobs.

Like these if there is enough room to use the tools.

Or these if they are strong enough?

A sharp 6mm Joiners chisel and hammer will let you cut it out in sections if you are really stuck.

    Hi All

Thanks for the suggestions. I made a pretty sturdy seal puller hook type affair which doesn't touch it . The slide hammer thingummy looks like a better bet- or dissolve it!!

    Cheers

Got the b@stard! Two blow torches and my home made tool fashioned I think from a lawn-mower blade did te trick. However even protecting the mouth with tape an some inner tube I still nicked it (not the seal surface)- cleaned up ok with a file and some 400 though.. Thanks all[IMG]
