to ride or not to ride...that is the question

Supposed to be an unseasonable 65 degrees tomorrow. Already in 50's today.

Should I get my XJ out from storage, or should I wait as I know it will be cold again, and more snow.

The reason I hesitate is the amount of sand on the streets, and melting snow puddles.

But then again, I would get to ride...

Modern problems!

 

Neither of the answers in the poll is right, as far as I am concerned. If you are not comfortable with it, don't ride. If you can do so with confidence, you will probably be fine. The worst mistakes made are those when I am nervous about what I am doing.

 

I always wait till a heavy rain to wash away sand and salt. Besides the bike gets dirty faster.

 

Similar conditions coming this way . . . Thought about it for a very short time. Nope.

Bike will wait until the sand gets washed off the roads, as mentioned in a different thread, I slid on sand in a turn just the other day. Sure I was coming into it a little hot, but if 4 wheels slip that easily, (like Lights said) I would hate to think what would happen on two. Too nervous, more wild animals than people where I am, can't take chances with an evasive maneuver turning sour cause I hit sand on the road.

 

Obviously I am being facetious....too dirty and dangerous until a good rain....and street sweeper.

 

You need to weigh the fun to cost-of-a-broken-ankle ratio.

 

We got almost two feet of snow in the last week, so to ride or not to ride is not a question for me since I don't have a snowmobile. The question is more: do I go shoveling this evening or should I wait until tomorrow morning?

 

You know it'll be crusty in the morning. Shovel tonight.

 

i'm going, don't know how far but at least to the gas station. maybe down the highway till my candy ass gets cold

 

It'll be 68 on Saturday. We haven't had enough snow to need any sand. I'll be taking half the day off from doing chores

 

No, it's fluffy stuff, it won't get any harder until tomorrow morning

Walked out of work today and it was freaky warm 52F. . . . thought really hard about my XJ.
Looked at all the sand on the road . . . .

 

Ok. 60 degrees and sunny. Sitting on porch. Couldn't stand it anymore.

Yes, I went for a ride. Wunderbar...

 

I cleaned egg off the front of my house. Why not wash windows in knee deep snow? FML

I went to the landfill to drop stuff off. On the way home saw a guy rolling a BMW off a trailer on the side of the road, should have stopped and asked him what he was up to . . . . Half mile further down the road there was a pile of feathers and a turkey squashed. Maybe the guy was scrapping turkey guts off his bike?

 

It was 70 here today , have been chomping at the bit to do a test drive with the new clutch in it ! It performed great ! But my old rule of thumb in the spring was wait till after the rain has cleared the road of salt and sand .That was in upstate ny or the north pole as I like to call it lol ! I'm in Md. now still cold but not as cold . Today was great !!!!

 

Life has not been serving me bacon lately. Last couple of days have been a steady diet of rotten tofu. The egg was just another helping. Of tofu. Cuz that makes sense too.

 

Finally got my bike running so you bet I was out!

 

5 psi in both tires and away i went

 

Got mine out but just cleaned it. Need rain to wash away salt before I ride

 

Broke down and get her out today. High 60's all week and 70's Friday, figured it was worth it for a couple days of riding. Feels good to be on it!

 

I put about 12 miles on mine today, just enough to get it warmed up. We were in the low 50's

 

Brought mine to work after lunch. Looking at it out the window, 17 minutes left....sunny and 70.

Supposed to get 5 inches of snow Thursday....

 

Predicting 5-8" of the white stuff on Friday here. Right now (except in the woods and high drifts) all of the snow is gone.
Rained yesterday but not enough to wash the sand out of the corners . . .

 

You guys all have executive problems lol. I have so much to do before I've earned the right to make the decision to, or not to... All weekend i watched the flood of bikes going by... I feel llike this is part of my test, my initiation.... "PATIENCE SON..." It's good to hear your guys consideration of road conditions though. A reminder....

 

@Nastn8 You can always buy another one to ride while building your 550!

 

And I would, but money is so tight... That would just handicap my purchasing power for the Seca. I will exercise precise patience. I'd rather miss this summer of riding, than rush, or worse, back burner the Seca. Plus, my better half is in the market for a bike. I like the old Shadow 500 for her. Nice low seat. And there seems to be quite a few "turn keys" out there for cheap. We don't want hers to be a project too.

 

They have upped tomorrow's forecast from 5" to as much as 11" for my area. Bike is was parked in back of garage, snowblower was brought out in front again.

 

Lucky. I want snow.

 

I had to pull the old KLR out and take a nice ride, two days in a row. Good for this time of year with the 70/30 tires on her. A combination of bad weather will force me back inside to change out the jets on 700x. I did see my first Red Wing Black Bird today, so nature sure is thinking spring is here in WI.

 

It was 65 here in Baltimore today.

 

Mid 70's in the middle of the High Plains. Four years ago to the day we had 4 feet of snow on the ground.

Damn Moe....you get that Ecinacea yet? Garlic and cinnamon man. I'm a witch doctor. That stuff has kept me healthy all year (except for my back).

 

Echinacea, garlic and other natural cures are a good route to take, but sometimes a bug needs to run its course.

It was not uncommon for the early settler woman who practiced herbal remedies/ medicines to be dubbed 'witches'.

 

Too true on running its course...

 

I've dated witches before. It's a LOT of fun. Right up until you make them angry... don't make them angry!

 

75 degrees today. I've passed so many bikes....

 

Snow just started here. I has begun. Predicting anywhere from 12 to 21 inches in the next 48 hours.

My xj is once again in the back of the garage with the battery tender attached...snowblower is back in the front of the garage...

 

One more day of 70's predicted here.
