    hi everybody

I’m new in here and got my first bike a lovely Yamaha Xj 550 1982.

    It had been standing still for 8 years and I rebuild it and got everything to work. Almost;
I can’t get my turn light to work at all and i’m Completely lost. Is there any tips or tricks you can give me? I have all the tools, have seen so many YouTube videos and still nothing works.
Is there maybe something I do wrong?

    Al the best Jonas

    fuse?

make sure the flasher unit is on the bike clean connectors

clean the bulb sockets clean the connectors from the assemblies.
    replace the bulbs.
is it both lights or just one side? front and back?

electronic spray cleaner and a little dielectric grease (bulb grease)

you can use a meter to see if voltage is making it to connectors
you should/may have to clean the control could be a broken wire or solder joint.

    Hi Guys

Thanks a lot for the quick response :)

I'v got a Euro 550, and the wiring Diagram is really so much easier than the black and white the manual comes with. Thanks!

I'v haven't tried that much, cause I'm really confuse about all the electricity on the bike. It f***es my brain completely up!
I would try to see if all the cables are connected right first of all with the wiring diagram I just got. As it is now, I got nothing light at all, in the front and back.

I think the big issue is that i really dont get how i use the Voltmeter. What do I have to set it to for checking out, if I get power through the wiring?

Sorry if i'm completely new, but i'm so confused...

    All the best Jonas

It helps to look at each light be by its self. What I am getting at is just take one issue at a time. If that light does not work, take the bulb out and test the bulb with the ohm setting. A open will be just like holding the test leads in the air. I good bulb will be just like or almost like holding the test leads together. You test the bulb from the metal body with the black lead and the red or "+" lead to one of the point on the end of the bulb. Some bulbs have two for the turn signal and a running light.

Getting a test light is good for tracing power on the bike too. It is like a screw driver with a light in it. You can test with a multi meter too, just have to get to use it and make sure it is set to DCV.

On my 81 the right side both blinks but the left side when I turn it on the back stays lite and front isn't on at all. Bulbs maybe?

Could be that or maybe a wire. Get that multi meter out and start to check voltage. Or you could just check to see if the bulb is good and the wire continuity through the ckt. Good luck, I would think it would be easy, so give it a try.

if only 1 light comes on it would be bulb or socket maybe check the connections. blinkers will not flash with 1 bulb bad it needs the total wattage to make the flasher relay work.

the solder on the ends of the bulb get dented in and stop making good contact remember 27 watt bulbs
