    Bike is factory stock.

I need to take off the petcock. Without buying a rebuild kit:

What size o ring is used to reseal between petcock and tank?

Any gaskets or washers around the bolts? If so, what do I need?

Can these be bought at local hardware?

    Thanks.

don't know abut the 550, but I was able to reuse the o-ring on my XJ700N. I just cleaned it and put a little silicone grease on it for good measure. Also reused the same bolts, washers, etc. If you are not going into the petcock and it's not leaking now between the petcock and tank you should have no problem. I've removed mine several times.

yes the bolts have a special washer under the head. doubt you can buy at hardware store , but you can reuse the ones you have.
you can use a round o ring just form it into the slots
or you can buy both from xj4ever.com
    look under fuel system

Making sure to buy a fuelproof o-ring (viton preferably).

Had it off today and replaced with original. So far no leaks.
