There was a guy on the Adventure Riders forum that took a clapped-out Connie and made it naked. Don't think he ever completed the project documentation on-site but it looked like a good concept - actually looked much like a Seca when he took off the fairing/tail and grafted on a XS400 headlight and built a custom seat.

I'm not usually one for Kawasakis, but I'm sure yours will look awesome. You do a great job on your bikes and can't wait to see this one done.

Hey wiz, I've been following your newest pickup....I've tried to stay away from cafe`'ing anthing as I'm worried it will activate the "go fast" button in my brain(and I'll end up broken) but looking at that bike, from this angle it looks to me like a sleeker tank, getting rid of all that clutter at the top of the triples and a smaller front fender and a different exhaust could do wonders.....then it would be time for all the detail goodies such as speciality brakes, grips, controls and trim, you know, the stuff that drains the wallet<LOL>....enjoy your build. It's always fun watching another guy's perspective come to life and as many others here have noted, you do nice, well thought out work.

JeffK, I'm going with that tank, it's 'beamy'to master the radiator + I might want to go on a looooong journey.
Before I go any further I need to know I have a strong running motor, so, get the valves in spec', check the comp'then pull the carbs for a clean & sync.

have you driven it yet ? you know the motor is based of the old zx11 and zrx motor with milder cams. I never had a problem with my zx but if it was ridden pretty hard they have a bad time with 2nd gear. They also have a oiling problem with #3 rod .They might have fixed the problem. If it is ever dropped the way the pan is shaped and pick up position till they stall they have no oil pressure it shows its evel head after a few thousand miles. There is a tip over switch that kills the motor if it falls you can get if your worried. I had a zrx and a ninja both with low miles and never had a problem

    C'mon - -Wizard doesn't drop bikes !!

But I can't believe you wouldn't want to enjoy the whole "sport touring" sensation before the tear-down. Isn't it "winter" there??

Wiz, I read with interest your observation about the weather. Winter time and raining. It is as summer here in the state of Washington as it is winter where you are and we have not had 6 sunny days since the first of the year! PLENTY of rain though. I love the rainy weather but I have just about had enough.

    Ride safe and stay dry!

Wiz, I was looking at the fiche for that bike. Interesting valve train, very clever. Wait until you take the carbs apart; some interesting design "licks" in there. Also noticed that virtually every part is still available, and not super expensive. There's even a separate section in the fiche called "carburetor parts."

Looks massive. Good luck "paring" it down.

Would be cool to adapt a "remote" idle adjuster to the XJ rack now that I've used them on the GL1500 and the ZZR1200.

Well I'd lose in the "imagination" part, because look what I found -

Yeah but the reality is that none of them, save the 74 H2 make the power of even my lowly DL1000 and it sure isn't known as a powerful bike.

2 strokes have a reputation that far exceeds the reality....but they are still a blast to ride.

Wiz, I can understand wanting the liters, especially if distances between stops are as far as we here they are.....but it's HUGE on that frame....maybe an aux tank hidden away somewhere? LOL....

I had to get another comp' gauge, one that could reach down into the deep plug recceses, anyhow, I got strong readings, not that even across the 4, but I'm not too bothered about that as the motor has not run for 7 years & the valves were out of spec', I'll get it running for a while, then check again. Just finishing the feul levels in the bowls, then I'm pretty much ready to fire her up.

Good news day, got the carbs synced, I used the 2 tube liquid manometer, with these you have to ballance 1 with 2, then 3 with 4, then ballance the 2 pairs. All good no smoke, charging at 14.8 v @ 2K. Fan cutting in OK, so lets get on with the chop. ;o)

Panic over, apparently these bikes have a 'neutral finder', which only allows you to select first & neutral while stationary, save you 'fishing for'neutral.

Made the templates for the rear set peg brackets, the right has to accomodate the brake pedal & M / cylinder.

I played with your picture a bit, hope you don't mind. I thought a bit more scalloping on the fender would follow the lines of the tire, rim and forks. I know it's a bit rough, but you can see what I'm aiming for.
