    greetings from Serbia !

i see that you have many XJ fans here.

for 2 years, i have XJ 650 Maxim custom military bober, is my 3rd customized bike.

    cost me about 1200e total.

i love my Yamaha very very much, she is reliable, have average fuel consumption

about 8-9 lit./100km and very lovely to ride.

i use only mineral oil, Optima 15W-40 and i change it always at 3000 km.

safe, and not exspecive - 4 lit. can cost about 10e.

    sparks are Denso W22EPRU.

    sorry for my english,

    Aleksandar

terrible weather now, and for about 15 days ahead.
when weather go nice, my plan is to change original air filter with four KN.
then i gonna mount white walls on tires

my front tire is 19, back is 18 (from Seca).

my plan for future is also to get spoked wheels from old BMW (both 18 or both 19)
disc is not important for me, big drum is also good.
i never drive at high speed - i prefere speeds about 80-120 kmh.
but wheels from old BMWs are very very hot $$$, damn.

plan is also change to hard tail and lower the bike to maximum.

    open pipes also.

Save your self a huge headache and keep the airbox.

I'd like to hear more about this. Will the rear drive splines from the BMW wheel fit the splines on the Yamaha final dive, and keep the wheek centered?

Be caerful how far you lower it. The u-joint does not tolerate much lowering and will bind.

i gonna mount KN filter absolutly.
my friend has mount on his 650 and bike runs better.

    lowering - just a plan - not 100% shure.

spoked wheels - hard to find and not to be $$$.

    air pod filters finaly mounted.
    i did carb tuning.
    not rejet.
impresions : from 1000-3000 rpm bike runs normaly.
little bit lively. just how i want.
from 3000+ bike runs like devil.
petrol consumption (regular petrol) is about 9,5-10 lit/100km.
    i am very pleased.
next season i gonna get original kn filters.
this season is imposible, because not frendly price (from 160-200e for 4 pieces).
and planty jobs waiting to do.
mat black painting, white walls, exaust wrap, hard tail ...
    to be continuited
    ;)

    Dose she pop on deceleration?
If she does, you'll have holes in your pistons soon enough.

    no pop on deceleration.
pop only on big downhill when engine braking.
but rarely engine braking because i have 2 disc front.
    very good brakes.
discs are not original (original have 1 disc), i took them from scrap Seca.

So you are lean, but maybe not horribly lean.
What do the plugs look like?

    Sounds good then.
One of the interesing things about the XJ series is that the U.S. market versons were jetted leaner than the versions for the rest of the world.
It is that richer jetting that's letting you run pods without being dangerously lean.
