Hey guys! I can't seem to find any threads or help online about replacing the chain and sprockets on my 81 xj550. I'm gonna go ahead and try it out later tonight but any help I could get would be much appreciated.

you will have to losten or remove foot peg. mark the shift lever and shaft for reassembly. remove shifter cover.
the front sprocket is held on by a plate with 2 bolts use Loctite med strength when reassembling.
clean out the sprocket cavity. rear tire unbend tabs on brackets under bolts so you can reuse them also use med strength Loctite.
clean chain before installing wd 40 works. if standard chain soak in oil overnight. if x or o ring chain lube with quality chain lube.

its a pain to do it but keeping chain well lubed cuts down how often you have to adjust it
