Paint begins about a third of the way down.
Any powedered laundry soap will work? Need to do my tank as well.
this is the same as the por15 metal prep
any laundry soap works but get some enviro friendly stuff so you feel good about dumping it the driveway
I have a xj750 maxim tank with the fuel sending unit can I do this method of cleaning?
just make a blocking plate for the petcock and sending unit
Ok I was thinking that I watched a video on u tube and the guy used vinegar to clean a tank and left the fuel sending unit on but he never coated the tank with anything thanks. Also I was thinking if since I have a 650 maxim and don't need the fuel sending unit I could make a blocking plate and seal it and pass the unit on to someone who needs it.
Excellent you obviously did a great job cleaning the xj tank.
I will need to try do the same soon.
Thanks for doing this video.

What is the best way to de rust the inside of a tank without risking damage to the paintwork? What percentage strength of a chemical is strong enough to remove rust?
or the stuff they sell at the parts store you just pour it in your tank then rinse out evaporust i think it is called evaporust
vineger will do the trick

- FUEL TANK INTERNAL RUST REMOVAL AND SEALING:
For most owners, replacement fuel tanks are not available, and so the issue becomes "how to de-rust" an original tank. Although there are a variety of methods which can be used, there are plus-and-minus considerations to each method or technique.
The following websites outline the most common methods used to de-rust iron or steel parts:
Thanks XJ55oH good information here. I am hoping to get the rust out soon. Do you any information on using POR 15 Tank Sealer or Caswells I think it is called. Don't know about Red Kote but I don't think they sell it in the UK anyway.
I havent lined a tank ,but you do want the hard shell not a rubber bladder type
Yes I think I will use the Caswell or the POR 15. Rustbusters do a tank Sealer kit too that is meant to be very good. It is all about the preparation in using these products as some people have great results and others don't. Here is the link for the Slosh one which you probably know about.
i'd rather see some rust in a tank than any kind of sealer
Thats the problem Polock messy if a sealer fails. The 900 tanks fail in the lower sections above the side panels as you know.
