Got a question for you all. I recently purchased a xj750 gas tank to increase my fuel capacity on my 82 xj650. I know the tank is a straight swap but i am curious to know what part is missing for this cut out section that is near the petcock. Either I will find the part or I will weld it closed.

    Thanks for any help.

I would safely assume sending unit for fuel gauge

If you can cut with grinder and use drill, I would advice you not to buy that block off plate and make your own instead.
I bought this plate for my XJ550 tank, as soon as I started tightening the bolts that the plate comes with plate got warped and supplied washers cracked. I ended up making my own out of thicker metal.

Was that the plate that Chacal sells?
I've never heard of any problems with it.
If it was from him, did you contact him about the problem?

It was from XJ4ever. I didn’t contact them, as I never dealt with that company before I wasn’t sure how they go about stuff like that and didn’t want to “ruin” the relationship for future orders. But from now on I will always ask them if the part is OEM or not and request more information on the product and pictures.

That's Chacal He likes to know of any quality issues so he can make things right, and see if the manufacturer can make improvements.
    Start a conversation with him.

Ok another question. I ordered and recieved the cover for the fuel sending hole as well as a new petcock assembly. Should I sand down around the old paint where i will be attaching thise new pieces before i bolt them on?

I did. I would also recommend using fuel resistant sealant on both sides of the gasket.

there should be no paint under the petcock

Yamaha did not put much paint on the underside of the tank

You can see in my pic above there is just a bit if paint there and there is a pretty noticable depth variance from where the old petcock was. Im just gonna sand ot down a bit.
