I’m looking for a set of carbs for my 86 700x. I got this bike pretty cheap and the guy before has mutilated the jets trying to get them out.

Do you have the chromed, plastic "5 Valve" carb side covers to get rid of?

That would depend on how little you’re willing to sell one for…

I have a pair of factory carbs on a 1985 xj700 maxim. I would rather sale you the hole bike. It has a wiring problem. A little work and it would be back to the street.

That’s not a maximX, and the carbs won't interchange. The XJ750 rack will not interchange, either. The X takes Mikuni carburetors and the ones shown are hitachi carburetors. The XJ750 carb rack is also different than the xj700 rack even though they are also hitachi.

Ok, what make is the one in the picture? For some reason I only get fired on the outside cylinders but no fire on the inside cylinders. If I could figure that part out it would start up and run. Do you think you can help me out?

    Read what I said.

As far as only the two outside fires, and I'm assuming you mean when it was on the bike, that points to a coil failure (or pickup failure).....the right coil goes to cyl 2&3. Left coil goes to 1&4.

Thank you. From the pictures can you tell what model that is? It is a 1985 xj700 maxim. I'm just trying to get parts for the bike. It was my first bike I had.

Yes, as you said, it’s an xj700 Maxim.

Its in pretty Sad shape right now, but it can be brought back with TLC.

I recommend doing a carburetor rack rebuild, and get the valve clearances back into spec. That will go a long way in helping to get it back into good shape.

Someone chopped up the wire harness real good. I had it stored at my dad's house. Now it turns over and tries to start but it doesn't have fire to the inside cylinders. Do you know where I can get the manual for that bike? I need a wiring diagram.

Make sure your left coil is connected to to plug 1 (on your left, and plug 4 (on your right), and the right coil gets hooked to plug 2 ( inside left), and plug 3 (inside right).
Now go one at a time ..... pull each plug and see if all 4 are creating spark.
