    Does it really matter? I suppose if it were in the middle it would only have 1 carb on each side to fill before it fills up the outside carb. Otherwise 1 & 2 would fill, then 3, then 4th.... couldn't that potentially cause fueling problems on the 4th?

    Doesn't appear to have made much difference, but yea I suppose it could.

    The room where it happened
    The BS35 carbs (used on XJ900RK and RL models) had the fuel inlet t-fitting in-between the #1 and #2 carbies, while the larger BS36 carbs (used on the 900N, FN, F models) had the fuel inlet in-between the #2 and #3 carbs..........
