if it is like 80's lightweight Hondas, it will have a ratchet so as the pads wear the ratchet will take up the slack.

My kid's minibike has one. In it, there is a lever that rotates a "cammed" surface that presses on a couple of plungers that press on the pad. Each side of the "cam" pushes its own plunger.

I've seen 3 ball bearings in cable operated clutch actuators. On those the balls go into ramped slots. As the cage rotates the balls expand the assembly. Might be something similar in your caliper.

I had a KZ200 ~18 years ago. I rebuilt the brake too. Nothing to it. I also had a Honda CB200, which are about the only two bikes that ever came with a mechanical front disk brake like that. (Oh, the Honda CB125 had it too for a few years...)

I put it all back together, it works as Carl said, it doesn't have a great deal of 'throw', just a couple of mil, must be enough I guess.

I wish he'd have placed all those antique bits away from the coupons so I could see the prices of the fruits on sale.

If you want to have some fun with somebody, ... the next time you see a Pile of Bits like that Mechanical Caliper all laid-out ... find and old Spring you saved from a Brake Wheel Cylinder and drop it in with the rest of the Parts.

You have more fun watching everybody try to figure-out just where that spring goes than you will trying to figure-out how to solve this puzzle.

(Don't click on this link unless you have at least 2 Hours to figure-out what the SIX opening moves out of the necessary 84 it takes to solve the puzzle.)

    Don't say I didn't warn you.
